Create Your First Gamified Pass

This guide walks you through the full process of creating a gamified mobile pass using Bandwangoโ€™s Experience Builder.

๐Ÿ›  Step 1: Create a New Pass

  1. From the left-hand navigation, select Passes.
    โ€‹

  2. Click โ€œ+ New Passโ€.


๐ŸŽฏ Step 2: Choose the Pass Type & Set Some Default Functions

Youโ€™ll now be on the creation screen.

  1. Select your Pass Type โ†’ Choose Gamified Pass.

    โ€‹โš ๏ธ Note: Changing the Pass Type later may remove inventory, choose carefully!

  2. Choose a default Check-In method.
    Check-ins are how passholders earn points. Make sure the method aligns with the level of engagement you want at each location.

    • Device GPS โ†’ User must be within a set distance of the location.
      Good for: ease of use, flexibility, no merchant involvement.

    • QR Code โ†’ User scans a QR code on-site.
      Good for: verifying presence, engaging businesses, requiring collateral.

    • Venue PIN Number โ†’ User enters a unique 4-digit PIN from the location.
      Good for: requiring merchant interaction, areas with poor cell service.

    • Device GPS or PIN โ†’ User uses GPS by default but can enter a PIN if GPS fails.
      Good for: flexibility and locations with poor reception.

  3. Optionally, set a default repeat usage amount.

    This controls whether guests can check in multiple times at the same location and how often.

  4. Enter an anticipated launch date.
    This isnโ€™t permanent, it just helps track your progress.
    โ€‹

  5. Give your pass a fun pass name!


๐Ÿ–ผ Step 3: Add Basic Details (Header Image & Description)

  1. Pass Description (2000 character limit)

    Appears on the main page of the pass. Use this to explain what the pass is, how it works, and what users can win.

  2. Mobile Pass Header (1280x640 px)

    The main image users see during signup and at the top of their pass.

  3. Optional: Add audio or video content
    Click Show Advanced to embed audio and/or video on the main dashboard.

๐Ÿ“ Step 4: Add Locations (Places)

  1. Under Places To Go, click + MY NETWORK or use the search bar to find and add locations.

  2. Edit details, descriptions, or images for each location as needed.


๐Ÿ’ธ Step 5: Add Discounts & Vouchers (Optional)

If your gamified pass will include offers, discounts, or vouchers:

  • Add or create coupons and discounts tied to your Places.

  • Click "+New" to create new discounts.

  • Click "+Existing" to add any already-created things to your pass.


๐Ÿ† Step 6: Gamification Setup Part 1 (Create & Add Prizes)

  1. Navigate to the Gamification section.

  2. Create any new prizes or edit existing ones. (Follow our guide here to create prizes.)

  3. Click the green + icon to add prizes to the Added Prizes section.

  4. Add a Redemption Cost โ†’ The number of points required for this prize.โ€‹

  5. Add a Redemption Limit โ†’ The maximum number of times someone can claim this prize (e.g., once, unlimited, or a set amount).

Note: If left blank, redemption is unlimited.


๐Ÿงฉ Step 7: Gamification Setup Part 2 (Setup Point Rules)

Default Point Values

  • Signup Bonus โ†’ Award points just for signing up.

  • Check-In Points โ†’ Default number of points awarded per check-in (applies to future locations). To configure check-in points with more granularity, scroll down to Custom Point Values.

  • Referral Points โ†’ Points for successful referrals via social sharing.

Point Expiration Rules

  • Upon Pass Expiration (default) โ†’ Points expire when the pass expires.

  • Days After End โ†’ Set a number of days after expiration.

  • Specific Date โ†’ Choose a fixed expiration date.

Custom Point Values

Optionally, assign custom point values to specific check-ins, vouchers, redemptions, or activities. Leave blank to use defaults. To assign custom point values to items:

  1. Navigate to the Gamification tab of your pass.

  2. Scroll to the Custom Points Settings section.

  3. Find the list of activities and redemptions included in the pass.

  4. For each activity, enter the specific point value you want to assign.

  5. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to apply the settings..

โš ๏ธ Make sure your guests can earn enough points to earn prizes!


Step 8: Setup Categories & Filters (Optional)

If you want to add any custom filters for the locations on your pass you can customize these settings in Categories.

Otherwise, feel free to add any of the default categories for easier navigation.


โ“Step 9: Add Additional Context in FAQs (Optional)

If you have any pass-specific information you want guests to easily know you can add these in the FAQs section.

๐Ÿ—“ Step 10: Setup the Dates for signup and expiration

Go to the Dates section in the pass builder:

  1. Optionally add availability dates.

    1. These dates control when someone can sign up for your pass
      โ€‹

  2. Add the dates when someone can use the pass

    1. Start Date (Sign-Up): Determines when the pass becomes active for users. Usually set to Upon Purchase for free gamified passes.

    2. End Date (Use of Pass): When the pass expires.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Recommended Dates for a Gamified Pass:
These dates are recommended for an ongoing gamified pass. Users will have one full calendar year to use their pass from the date they sign up.

End Date Settings:

  • End Date: Duration

  • Duration Type: Days

  • Duration Amount: 365


๐Ÿ“ Step 11: Finalize any Pre Purchase Information

Navigate to the Checkout section.

  1. Learn More Description
    Appears at checkout when users click โ€œLearn More.โ€
    โ€‹

  2. Pass Highlights
    Displayed as bullet points on the signup card.


๐Ÿš€ Step 12: Launch Your Pass

Youโ€™ve created your Gamified Pass! Now make it available for distribution.
