For additional information on why we are setting up a subdomain in your DNS refer to this article.

Creating a CNAME Record in Your DNS Provider

  • The Bandwango URL must be a subdomain of a domain that you own that you have already set up with a DNS hosting provider.

  • You will use a CNAME record to create and redirect that subdomain to point to the Bandwango server. A CNAME record tells computers that when someone types in your custom domain (explore.yourdomain.com) that you want to actually load your Bandwango mobile passes

  • The CNAME record you'll create will point to a target that is created by the Bandwango team

Not sure who your DNS hosting provider is?

Your DNS hosting provider is likely to be the service where you've registered the domain name or the hosting service where you host your website. MX Toolbox's DNS Lookup is a helpful tool to discover public information about your domain — enter your domain there and you'll see a box near the bottom that will show the DNS hosting provider for your domain.

Create the record at your DNS hosting provider

Each DNS hosting provider will have their own terminology and formatting for creating a CNAME record.

  1. Access your DNS management interface. Look for the DNS management section or a similar option.

  2. In the DNS management interface, find the DNS settings associated with the domain for which you manage. This is usually labeled as "DNS Zone Editor" or "Manage DNS Records."

  3. Open the settings to view your current DNS records. Each entry should show:

    • an original location (often listed in a column called Name, Host, or Alias)

    • the type of the record (for example, CNAME)

    • the destination the record is pointing to

  4. Now it’s time to create a new CNAME record: Look for an option to add a new record and select the CNAME record type. You might need to select it from a list of options.

  5. Enter the hostname (can also be called Name, Host, or Alias): In the "Hostname" or "Name" field, enter your chosen action word. (i.e. explore, go, experience)

  6. Enter the target that was provided to you by the Bandwango team exactly as it appears.

    • this field can also be titled Value, Points to, or Destination

  7. If you see a TTL field and it's editable, set the TTL to 600 seconds

  8. Save or Add the CNAME Record

  9. Wait for DNS propagation.

    • This propagation process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

  10. If the CNAME record has been entered successfully in your DNS, please inform Bandwango Staff the entry has been added!
