Creating promotions in the Bandwango Experience Builder allows you to offer discounts and drive engagement for your experiences. Follow this guide to set up a promotion and apply it to the appropriate channels and passes.
⚠️ Before you create a Promotion, the following must be true:
You must have a completed pass or individually paid experience (ie item)
The pass or experience must be added to a Channel
NOTE: Access Codes cannot be created in Experience Builder at this time.
If you would like to create a code that is required for signup or purchase, please submit a request to the Bandwango Team.
How To Create Discount Promotions:
1. Click Promotions.
2. Click + New Promotion.
3. Enter a Name for the promotion.
4. Add an optional Description.
This description is only used for internal labelling, it is not public facing.
5. Click Create.
6. It's time to enter your Discounts.
First, add the channel(s) that this promotion should apply to.
Second, add the discount(s) to the appropriate passes & experiences.
(Optionally), add an item limit to control how many times this promotion can apply to a specific item.
🧩 Understanding Item Limit:
If the Item Limit is set to 2, and the customer adds 5 of that item to their cart, the discount will only apply to 2 of them.
If the Item Limit field is empty then the promotion will apply to all items in the cart.
7. Apply an optional Order Limit.
The Order Limit lets you Specify the maximum number of items this promotion can applied to when customers checkout (across all passes & experiences).
🧩 Understanding Order Limit:
This sets the maximum number of items in an order that the promotion can apply to.
It doesn’t matter which items are in the cart, this limit applies across the entire order.
Example: If you set the Order Apply Limit to 3, the promotion will only apply to 3 items total, even if more are eligible.
8. Add optional Active Date range(s).
Set a date range to specify when this promotion can be used.
If the start or end date is empty the promotion will be active indefinitely until or after a specific date.
9. Add an optional Condition.
Conditions let you define rules that must be met before a discount can be applied.
Required Items: Set a number of unique items that must be in the cart in order for the promotion to apply.
Min Order Total: Set a dollar ($/£/€) amount that must be met or exceeded before the promotion can apply.
10. Add your Codes.
Single Code
Create a single promo code with one or many uses.
Bulk Generation
Generate multiple random single-use codes.
CSV Upload
Upload a CSV file containing the codes along with the corresponding number of uses for each code.
11. Scroll to the top of the page and set your promotion to Active!
Advanced Promotion Code Setup & Examples
Let's walk through some more advanced configurations and real-world examples.
💸 Percentage (%) Off Entire Order
Apply a percentage discount to the total order value.
How to set it up:
Enter the % off (e.g., 20%) to each item you would like discounted.
Ensure there are no limits added.
📈 Spend More, Save More
Examples: Spend $50, get $5 off; spend $100, get $15 off
How to set it up:
Enter the $ off amount (e.g. $10 off) to the item(s) you want discounted.
Add a Condition.
Select Minimum Order Total.
Enter the minimum dollar amount the customer must spend before promotion is applied.
⏰ Time-Based Discounts
Limit promotion availability with recurring or limited date ranges
How to set it up:
Setup your promotion as normal.
Add an Active Date Range.
💡 Tip: Use Active Dates for more flexibile promotions.
Leave the start date blank to make it available immediately and run until a set end date.
Leave the end date blank to have it start on a specific date and run indefinitely.
Better Understanding Order vs Item Limits
🤝 Using Order Apply Limit & Item Limit Together – An Example
Let’s say you create a promotion with:
Order Apply Limit: 4
Item Limit: 2
A customer adds the following to their cart:
3 of Item A
2 of Item B
Here’s what happens:
The promotion will apply to 2 of Item A (due to the Item Limit)
It will also apply to 2 of Item B
That brings the total discounted items to 4, which hits the Order Apply Limit
Any additional items in the cart, even if eligible, won’t receive the discount because both limits have been reached.
Understanding Promotion Conditions
Promotion conditions are rules that must be met in order for a discount to apply. Setting these up correctly ensures your promotion only triggers when customers meet specific criteria, like buying certain items or spending a minimum amount.
🔹 Required Items
Use this when: You want the discount to only apply if specific item(s) are in the customer’s cart.
How to set it up:
Navigate to the Conditions section of your promotion.
Click + Add Condition.
Choose Required Items.
Add the Minimum Order Size.
This is the minimum number of unique items that must be in the customer’s cart for the promotion to be eligible.
Add an optional Maximum Order Size.
This is the maximum number of unique items that can be in the cart for the promotion to be applied.
On the table, select the unique items that must be present in the customer’s cart for the promotion to be eligible.
Click Save.
💡 Tip: This is perfect for "Buy X, Get Y" style offers.
🔸 Minimum Order Total
Use this when: You want the customer to spend a certain amount before qualifying for the promotion.
How to set it up:
Navigate to the Conditions section of your promotion.
Click + Add Condition.
Choose Min Order Total.
Enter the minimum dollar amount the customer must spend (e.g., 50 for $50).
Click Save.
💡 Tip: This works great for “Spend $50, Get $10 Off” or to encourage larger cart sizes.
Access Codes vs Discount Promotions
NOTE: Access Codes cannot be created in Experience Builder at this time.
If you would like to create a code that is required for signup or purchase, please submit a request to the Bandwango Team.
✏️ When to use Access Codes vs Promotions
Use Signup / Access Codes when:
You want to restrict access to a pass until a valid code is entered.
The promotion is part of a private offer (e.g., a hotel partnership or corporate benefit).
Use Discount Promotions when:
You want to incentivize purchases with a public or broadly-distributed discount.
You need more advanced pricing logic (like order minimums, multi-item rules, etc.).
The offer is public-facing and not meant to restrict access to the pass.
Keep in mind, Access Codes can still provide a discount!
